First edition in latin of the comments on the first Book of Euclid's Elementa by Proclus (412-485), a neo-Platonic philosopher and since 450 head of the Academy of Athens, corrected and enlarged after manuscripts, and newly commented upon by Francesco Barozzi. Barozzi also practiced black magic for which he was imprisoned in 1587 by the Inquisition. After his death he left his nephew Jacopo Barozzi, also a scholar and mathematician, a considerable library and scientific and mathematical instruments. - Nice copy. With large woodcut printer's advice on title page, verso a woodcut by Barozzi, framed by woodcut borders, with numerous woodcut diagrams. Contemp. vellum (slightly stained, bumped and crumpled). - Altogether a clean and wide-margined copy.
