Importante jardinière en terre cuite émaillée brune à décor d'une femme et de six amours supportant deux paniers formant jardinière.
Signée en creux Joseph Cheret.

Le motif du pavot ornant le meuble que nous présentons apparaît dès 1889, mais c'est dans les années 1890 que Gallé va recourir de plus en plus à ce thème décoratif. Ainsi lors de l'exposition universelle de 1900 il présente une vitrine intitulée les pavots conçue pour ses filles.
Il utilise aussi bien la capsule que la tige de la fleur, que ce soit pour réaliser de petits meubles, ou de plus vastes ensembles comme une chambre coucher par exemple. Par la suite, Gallé délaissera quelque peu ce thème, sans l'abandonner totalement, pour celui de l'ombelle ou Heracleum.

The poppy motif decorating the piece of furniture that we are presenting, appeared from 1889, however it's from 1890 that this decorative theme was more often seen.
In the Exposition Universelle of 1900, Emile Gallé presented a showcase entitled  les pavots  which he conceived for his daughters. He also used the form of the capsule as well as the stalk of the flower both for small pieces of furniture as for vaste suites such as for a bedroom. After a while, Gallé, without completely abandoning this theme, went on to develope the umbel theme.
