Measuring stick 'tun-tun'
Iban Dayak, Sarawak State, Indonesien
wood, black patina, thin round stick tapering to the bottom, crowned by a stylized anthropomorphic figure in squatting posture, carved on a cubic base with delicate notched ornaments, slightly dam., on metal base;
the Iban placed traps along jungle trails to catch wild boar. To set the proper height of the trip cord, they used a special measuring stick, called 'tun-tun'. The figurative charms carved at the top of the 'tun-tun' were believed to magically 'call the boar to their death'.
