An English Culpeper type microscope with oak box Second quarter 18th century The microscope with brass eye-piece, turned lignum vitae body covered with dark red paper, resting on three curved brass legs around a shaped stage, above a hinged circular mirror, mounted on an octagonal base with one drawer fitted with various lenses and objectives, in an oak pillar case with brass ring handle, the body polychrome decorated with simulated oak grain, the interior with a drawer containing two brass tweezers, a brass fish-plate, and a small disk. Microscope: H 41 cm, box: H 48,5 cm
