One of the artist’s characteristic paintings, thematically as well as in its formal and color reduction.
Condition:The painting displays occasional spots of retouching, visible under UV-light. The edges bear framing traces. There is a trace of fine stress cracks in the woman’s décolletage. The overall condition is good, consistent with age. The frame shows conspicuous signs of use. Aldo Salvadori (1905-2002)The artist, born in Milan, studied at the Instituto d'Arte in Florence and copied the paintings of the Italian masters in the local museums. In 1926, he travelled to Paris, where he learned about the Impressionist painting. He was particular impressed by Renoir, Degas and the reduced forms of Henri Matisse. Back in Italy, he became friends with Filippo de Pisis and Giorgio Morandi. Thematically Aldo Salvadori prefers depictions of women, interiors and still lifes, which he captured in quiet, subdued colors and stylizing reduced forms.
