Claus Friedrich Bergen (1885-1964) was a German painter of naval and aviation scenes and landscapes. He and Ernst Udet lived in the same house in Munich and founded the "Aero-Club München 1909" with other young men. Bergen remained in contact with his friend "Erni", who helped him establish connections with the leading figures of the German aviation industry in the early 1930s. Bergen's paintings thus found their way to the representation areas of big aircraft plants. This painting was Bergen's homage to his friend Ernst Udet.
