Condition:
The painting is in a good, age-related condition with natural signs of age and wear. Under UV-light partially smaller touch-ups, especially along the edges. The borders furthermore in places with color abrasion due to framing. The surface bears craquelure. The dimensions of the canvas measure 56.5 x 41 cm and the frame measures 82 x 70 cm.
Henry Charles Bryant (1835-1915)
The artist was born in 1835 in Portsea (Hampshire) and predominately worked in London and Portsmouth. Between 1860 and 1880 he regularly exhibited his paintings at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Royal Society of British Artists. Bryant was particularly esteemed for his landscape paintings, market and farmyard scenes as well as portraits, which he always rendered in an extreme attention to detail. Several museums and galleries in England own his works, including the collections of the Museum Sheffield or the Portsmouth Museums and Visitor Services.
