The edition is based on a series of charcoal drawings created between 2000 and 2003; ‘The Freud Cycle’ was exhibited in the Albertina in Vienna in 2003 
In 1938, Edmund Engelman (1907-2000) realized a photo documentation on Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic office in Berggasse 19 in Vienna, shortly before Freud fled from the Nazis. Over sixty years later, Robert Longo (born 1953) took these photographs as the basis for a series of charcoal drawings which he created under the title ‘The Freud Cycle’ between 2000 and 2003. The series is in very good condition, showing only scattered faint creases and the lightest signs of use.

Robert Longo (b. 1953)
Robert Longo started his artistic training at the Buffalo State College, where he graduated in 1975. At that time it was his fellow student Cindy Sherman, who inspired him to deal with different media such as installation, performance, video art and photography. Since then he has expanded his artistic output to further fields such as painting, printmaking and film. Longo’s work has been included in the Whitney Biennial in New York, the documenta in Kassel, and the Venice Biennale, among many other prestigious exhibitions. The Kunstverein Hamburg as well as the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg have organized retrospective exhibitions. He currently lives and works in New York City.
