Superbe gobelet à couvercle gravé et doré, Lauenstein, milieu du XVIIIe siècle An exceptional Lauenstein gilded and engraved goblet and cover, mid-18th century The round funnel bowl finely decorated with four scenes allegorical of the Seasons resting on scrollwork brackets, Spring as a lady running with a basket of flowers, Summer as a reaper with a scythe and a sheaf of wheat, Autumn as a young man harvesting grapes, and Winter as two figures seated in an elaborate horse-drawn sleigh, the base of the bowl cut with stiff leaves and chevrons, on a faceted stem with a teared shoulder knop above a teared inverted baluster, over a high folded domed foot cut with a band of circlets, the domed cover with a tall teared faceted baluster finial, the rims of the cover and bowl gilt, 31.5cm high (minor wear to gilt rim of goblet, very slight crizzling to cover only) (2) Provenance With Uwe Friedleben Kunsthandel, 1 November 1982 Christian von Reitzenstein Collection Literature Alheidis von Rohr, Lauensteiner Glas, 1991, p.87, no.57.3 A virtually identical goblet and cover is described by von Rohr, 1991, p.87, no.57, but with Winter instead depicted as an elderly man wearing a coat and holding a stick, warming his hands over a brazier. This was sold as part of the Dr Wolf-Horst Röhl Collection by Dr Fischer Kunstauktionen on 24 October 2020, lot 61.
