RARE BOÎTE COUVERTE EN LAQUE ROUGE SCULPTÉ Époque Qianlong (1736-1795) A RARE CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER 'FIGURAL' BOX AND COVER Qianlong period The rectangular box and cover with a metal core and rounded sides, finely and deeply carved around the sides with carp jumping amongst crashing waves, the cover with a scene depicting a gathering of literati next to a river during Spring Purification Festival, the insides lacquered black, the inside cover with an incised four character inscription xiuxi wenhe (Precious Spring Purification box). 9.7cm (3 7/8in) diam.
