Gobelet à couvercle en verre gravé et doré, Lauenstein ou Essen, vers 1770 A Lauenstein or Essen Royal engraved and gilded goblet and cover, circa 1770 The generous waisted bell bowl with a solid beaded base cut with diamond facets, inscribed 'A LA/ MAISON/ ROYALE' (To the Royal House) within a rococo scroll cartouche surmounted by an English crown and flanked by martial trophies, including drums, a cannon and a flag with the Saxon Steed, raised on a teared inverted baluster stem cut with facets, over a high folded domed foot, the domed cover with a faceted teared finial, the rims of the cover and the bowl gilt, 30cm high (2) Provenance Puttkammer Collection, Berlin Helfried Krug Collection, sold Sotheby's London, 7 December 1981, lot 390 With Heide Hübner Kunsthandel, 9 December 1982 Christian von Reitzenstein Collection Literature Brigitte Klesse, Glassammlung Helfried Krug, Vol.2, 1973, pp.242-3, no.667 Several Lauenstein goblets bearing the same inscription are recorded, presumably all made for royalty, see Alheidis von Rohr, Lauensteiner Glas, 1991, pp.76-77, nos.43.1-2 and no.43.5 for an example of similar shape.
