Beau gobelet « Apostelhumpen » en verre émaillé avec couvercle associé, Allemagne, XVIIe siècle A fine German enamelled Apostelhumpen and a cover, 17th century The tall cylindrical form of greenish tint, brightly painted with two rows of the twelve apostles with their attributes, each standing beneath an arch and separated by columns, numbered and titled in black above, below a band of imbricated gilding embellished with white dots between further borders of white dots, an elaborate lambrequin border below the rim, the applied footring painted with white dashes, with a 'kick-up' base, the later double domed cover with knopped finial, painted with stylised scrolling foliage and flowerheads, 24.2cm high excluding cover, 36cm high including cover (the cover associated and probably later) (2) A similar Apostelhumpen is illustrated by Axel von Saldern, German Enameled Glass,1965, p.86, fig.88.
