A WOOD NETSUKE OF AN ONI (DEMON) HOLDING A METAL CORD
18th century
The oni modelled in a half-squatting and running action, scooting forward with his bent legs, wearing a fundoshi with a tiger pelt, his hands at his left side and behind gripping a later silvered-metal cord, the oni's hands forming the himotoshi; unsigned. 4.9cm (1 15/16in) high.
