1911 CADILLAC THIRTY Série 9220 Carte Grise Française - Première voiture dotée d’un démarreur électrique - Mère de l’automobile moderne - Même propriétaire depuis 16 ans - Ex-musée de l’Automobile de Normandie La marque Cadillac est née du rachat par Leland & Faulconer du constructeur Detroit automobile. Son nom est un hommage à Antoine la Mothe-Cadillac, fondateur de la ville de Detroit. Le mythe Cadillac naquit, avec le slogan : « Standard of the World » synonyme de précision et de qualité. En 1910, Cadillac entre dans le groupe général Motors et décision est prise de recentrer la gamme au tour d’un seul modèle, le type « Thirty ». Apparu en 1908, il évolua rapidement. Un directeur de la firme, Byron Carter étant mort en voulant démarrer à la manivelle une Cadillac, Leland (ingénieur en chef et cofondateur de la marque) demanda à ses ingénieurs de fabriquer un démarreur automatique. C'est ainsi que le modèle Thirty fut la première voiture équipée d'un démarreur électrique et du système d'allumage delco, cette installation permit également l’apparition des feux électriques. La Cadillac que nous présentons est donc l'une de ces premières voitures à allumage par delco, démarreur et éclairage électrique, avec phares gray et Davies étudiés par Cadillac. Elle a longtemps appartenu au Musée Automobile de Normandie avant que Monsieur Rollet en fasse l’acquisition en 2007 dans une vente aux enchères. Aujourd’hui elle se présente dans un bon état général. Comme l’ensemble de la collection celle-ci n’a malheureusement pas beaucoup roulé ces cinq dernières années et une remise en route sera à prévoir. 1911 CADILLAC THIRTY 9220 series French registration - First car with electric starter - Mother of the modern automobile - Same owner for 16 years - Former Normandy Automobile Museum The Cadillac brand was born of Leland & Faulconer's takeover of the Detroit automobile manufacturer. Its name is a tribute to Antoine la Mothe-Cadillac, founder of the city of Detroit. The Cadillac myth was born, with the slogan: "Standard of the World" synonymous with precision and quality. In 1910, Cadillac became part of the General Motors group, and the decision was taken to refocus the range around a single model, the "Thirty" type. Introduced in 1908, it evolved rapidly. When one of the firm's directors, Byron Carter, died trying to crank a Cadillac, Leland (chief engineer and co-founder of the brand) asked his engineers to manufacture an automatic starter. As a result, the Thirty model was the first car equipped with an electric starter and the delco ignition system, which also allowed the introduction of electric lights. The Cadillac we're presenting is one of the first cars to feature delco ignition, electric starter and lighting, with gray and Davies headlights designed by Cadillac. For a long time, it belonged to the Musée Automobile de Normandie, before Mr Rollet acquired it at auction in 2007. Today, it is in good condition. Unfortunately, like the rest of the collection, it hasn't been driven much over the last five years, and needs to be put back on the road.
