Inventif, intransigeant, il imposait ses idées originales envers et contre tout. C'est ce qui lui a permis de mettre au point des voitures totalement inhabituelles comme la fameuse Voisin Laboratoire qui, comme son nom l'indique, était un véritable laboratoire roulant et qu'il a engagée en 1923 en compétition. Pour ses voitures de tourisme, Gabriel Voisin restait plus orthodoxe, tout en apportant une attention particulière à l'insonorisation de la voiture et à l'isolement de l'habitacle par rapport aux éléments mécaniques, ainsi qu'à la surface vitrée qu'il voulait importante. Ses débuts dans l'aviation, il a mis au point en 1908 avec son frère Charles le premier avion capable de décoller et atterrir par ses propres moyens en effectuant une boucle complète, l'ont rendu attentif au poids, qu'il essayait de limiter. Toujours dans sa recherche de silence et de douceur de fonctionnement, il a adopté pour ses moteurs le système Knight, dans lequel les soupapes sont remplacées par des fourreaux coulissants. Après toute une série de modèles à moteur quatre-cylindres, Voisin se décidait enfin à ajouter en 1927 une six-cylindres à son catalogue: ce fut la C11, dotée d'un moteur 2 300 cm3. La berline Voisin C11 de la vente a été achetée par son actuel propriétaire lors d'une vente aux enchères organisée en 1984 par Maître Poulain. Depuis, il l'a peu utilisée et la voiture présente l'aspect d'une restauration ancienne ayant été faite dans les règles de l'art, le moteur six-cylindres sans soupapes fonctionnant très bien. Cette voiture offre l'originalité et le charme des productions de Gabriel Voisin, avec ses roues à enjoliveurs pleins, sa Cocotte de radiateur, son habitacle très clair et son beau tableau de bord. Elle représente une façon de rouler avec une voiture d'avant-guerre en se démarquant des productions de grande série. Il s'agit d'une automobile de grand prestige, une magnifique routière au style Art Déco inimitable. Inventive and uncompromising, he imposed his ideas against all odds. This is what allowed him to develop complete cars as unusual as the Famous Voisin Laboratory which, as its name suggests, was a real laboratory and in 1923 he got into competition. For his touring cars Gabriel Voisin remained orthodox, while bringing special attention to sound insulation of the car and the isolation of the passenger compartment versus the mechanical elements, and the glass surface that would important. With his beginnings in aviation, he developed in 1908 with his brother Charles the first aircraft capable of taking off and landing on its own, and also performing a complete loop, which made him very attentive to the weight, which he always tried to limit. Always in the search of silence and smoothness, Voisin adopted for his engines the Knight sliding valves. After a series of models with four-cylinder engines, Voisin finally decided to add in 1927 a six-cylinder model in its catalogue: it was the C11, with an engine size of 2300cc. This Voisin C11 saloon on sale was purchased by its current owner at an auction organized in 1984 by Mr. Poulain. Since he rarely used the car and has the appearance of an old restoration having been made to the rules of the art, the six-cylinder engine without valves is working fine. This car has the originality and charm of the production series of Gabriel Voisin, with full wheel covers, its Cocotte radiator and its interior and its beautiful clear dashboard. It represents a way of driving with a pre-war car that stood out from mass production products. It is a car of great prestige, a beautiful ode to the inimitable Art Deco style.
