C'est dans ce contexte que Louis Breguet, célèbre constructeur d'avions, se lança dans la production d'une voiture électrique, de forme et de conception originale. L'influence de l'aviation fût grande sur la conception de cette automobile dont la carrosserie était en duralium et dont la forme évoquait un avion sans ailes. Mue par un moteur Paris-Rhône alimenté par six batteries de 12 volts, elle avait trois vitesses avant et une arrière. L'exemplaire présenté appartient à un descendant de Louis Breguet et affiche un très bel état de conservation, ayant bénéficié d'une peinture ancienne. L'habitacle, très proche d'un cockpit d'avion, est complet et les sièges ont été refaits. Le propriétaire nous a indiqué que la voiture a roulé pour la dernière fois avec son ancien propriétaire, au cours des années 90. A sa connaissance, un exemplaire subsiste au sein de la collection Louwman aux Pays Bas, tandis que deux autres demeurent dans la famille. Témoignage émouvant d'une période où l'ingéniosité compensait la pénurie, cette rare Breguet mérite de retrouver la circulation où elle pourra passer pour un véhicule précurseur. The design of this automobile was strongly influenced by aviation and its body was in duralium and its shape looked like a plane without wings. Fitted with a Paris-Rhone engine powered by six 12-volt batteries, it had three forward speeds, and one rear. The car on offer belongs to a descendant of Louis Breguet and is in a striking state of conservation, having benefited from an old repaint from some time ago. The interior, very close to an airplane cockpit, is complete and the seats have been redone. The owner told us that the car was last driven by its erstwhile owner during the 1990s. To his knowledge, a similar car is in the Louwman collection in the Netherlands, while two others remain with the family. A remarkable testimony of a period when ingenuity compensated for shortages, this rare Breguet deserves to be on the road again.
