Sa création est une volonté du gouvernement allemand de permettre à chaque habitant une mobilité accrue au début des années 1930 et qui s’avère être un succès car le parc automobile allemand double entre 1932 et 1936 passant de moins de 500 000 voitures particulières à 1 000 000. Ferdinand Porsche planchait déjà sur une petite voiture économique avant même que le parti National Socialiste lui confie le projet de « voiture du peuple ». Dévoilée au public en 1938, elle séduit immédiatement 400 000 automobilistes qui en font une pré-commande en envoyant une partie de leurs économies auprès du constructeur sans jamais voir la voiture car la Seconde Guerre Mondiale pointe déjà le bout de son nez. Après-guerre, l’usine VW, proche de la frontière avec le voisin soviétique passe péniblement de mains en mains du coté des alliés mais commence à connaitre un réel succès au début des années 1950 grâce à l’exportation de son modèle en Europe Occidentale et aux Etats-Unis. Produite jusqu’en 2003, la Coccinelle passera par beaucoup de changements mécaniques, doublant sa puissance initiale en 50 ans. Symbole même de la voiture populaire mondiale, elle détient aujourd’hui le record du nombre d’unités produites : plus de 21 000 000 ! Le modèle que nous vous présentons fait partie des premières rééditions de la coccinelle d’après-guerre ; mais paradoxalement, VW fêtera le millionième exemplaire produit en 1955. Immatriculée en novembre 1954, cette Cox porte les numéros de frappe d’un modèle de 1953 et fut probablement achetée un an plus tard par son premier propriétaire. La voiture présente bien dans l’ensemble, la couleur choisie pour la carrosserie « vert menthe » est typique des colories du modèle dans années 1960 et souligne agréablement les rondeurs de cette dernière. L’intérieur en tissu est conforme avec les matériaux d’époque. Un petit entretien est à prévoir pour prendre la route sereinement. Rare version avec une lunette ovale, cette Coccinelle est le parfait petit classique fiable et amusant à conduire. Registered in November 1954, this Cox bears the registration numbers of a 1953 model and was probably purchased a year later by its first owner. The car looks good overall, the chosen body colour "mint green" is typical of the 1960's model colours and nicely underlines the car's curves. The cloth interior is in keeping with the period materials. A little maintenance is required to take the car on the road with peace of mind.
