De Lagonda, David Brown hérite aussi d'un styliste talentueux, Frank Feeley. Les instruments sont là, il ne reste plus qu'à les mettre en musique : ce sera l'Aston Martin DB2. Bien que techniquement raffinée, elle manque de confort et d'espace intérieur, défauts éliminés sur la DB2/4, lancée en 1953. En 1955, avec la DB 2/4 MkII, la ligne s'affine encore. Elle plaît aux stars, aux amateurs d'automobiles sportives et... aux écrivains, telle Françoise Sagan qui connut une fâcheuse mésaventure au volant de son cabriolet, sur une route de Normandie. Très chère, à la fois sportive et raffinée, la DB 2/4 est en train faire naître une fabuleuse lignée : celle des Aston DB qui, jusqu'à la DB6, vont reprendre les ingrédients des DB2 et DB 2/4, tout en les embourgeoisant. La DB 2/4 est en effet la dernière Aston Martin dont la personnalité forte dégage encore le parfum du monde sans compromis de la compétition. La voiture que nous présentons a été achetée il y a une dizaine d'années aux États-Unis par son propriétaire actuel, M. Anton aan de Stegge, propriétaire d'une des entreprises de construction les plus importantes des Pays-Bas. Le moteur d'origine (n°DBA1153) équipait alors la voiture mais, étant endommagé, il a été remplacé par un moteur complètement restauré. M. aan de Stegge a utilisé régulièrement cette voiture en rallyes historiques, si bien qu'elle a fait l'objet d'une préparation en ce sens. Elle comporte notamment un phare de recherche fixé au sommet du toit et orientable depuis l'intérieur de l'habitacle. Cette voiture sera une compagne idéale pour les amateurs d'épreuves historiques, voulant courir avec une voiture élégante et rapide. Also from Lagonda, David Brown inherited a talented designer in Frank Feeley. The instruments were there, they just needed make the music: and that became the Aston Martin DB2. Although technically refined, it lacked comfort and interior space, which was addressed on the DB2/4, launched in 1953. In 1955, with the DB 2/4 MkII, the design was refined further. It appealed to the stars, to motorsport enthusiasts and ... and writers, such as Françoise Sagan who encountered an unfortunate mishap whilst driving her convertible on a road in Normandy. Very expensive, sporty and refined, the DB 2/4 gave rise to a fabulous line of cars: the Aston DBs, through to the DB6, all evolved from the DB2 and DB 2/4. The DB 2/4, however, was the last Aston Martin whose personality exudes the uncompromising purity of outright competition. The car that we are offering was bought ten years ago in the United States by its current owner, Mr. Anton Aan de Stegge, the owner of one of the largest Dutch construction companies. The original engine (No. DBA1153) being damaged was replaced by a completely restored engine. Mr. aan de Stegge regularly used the car for historic rallies, and it has been prepared for rallying. In particular, it has a search light attached to the top of the roof and adjustable from inside the cockpit. This car will be an ideal companion for enthusiasts of historic events, wanting to compete with an elegant and fast car.
