D'emblée, le nouveau coupé dispose d'arguments convaincants. Pourvu de 4 confortables places, il répond pertinemment à la définition d'une auto de Grand Tourisme: élégance, luxe et performance. La ligne subtile due à Touring conjugue finesse et agressivité, tout en adoptant la technique « Superleggera « propre à l'atelier milanais. La sellerie en cuir et une instrumentation complète s'offrent au conducteur, fermement cramponné au superbe volant à trois branches. Sous le capot, l'héritage de la compétition se confirme: on a affaire au splendide 6 cylindres double arbres dérivé de la 350 S de course, qui délivre 220 ch. Les principales évolutions à venir seront l'apparition du Spyder dessiné par Vignale, l'adoption d'une injection Lucas en 1960, puis d'une boîte à 5 rapports à partir de 1961. La voiture présentée est un beau coupé de couleur rouge mis en circulation en 1962. Elle a parcouru 108000 km et n'a connu que trois propriétaires, l'actuel s'étant porté acquéreur de cette auto en 1971, auprès des établissements Thépenier, importateurs de la marque alors qu'elle n'était qu'une deuxième main. Son année-modèle en fait la version la plus aboutie, avec 235 ch sous le pied et l'agrément de la boîte 5 vitesses. Notre vendeur, qui a couru en rallye dans les années 1950, nous a confirmé qu'il aimait cruiser à 160 km/h quand les routes étaient dégagées. Au cours de travaux de restauration menés dans les années 80 par l'atelier ARES, la peinture a été refaite ainsi qu'une partie de l'habillage en cuir de l'intérieur tout en gardant les sièges d'origine. A la même époque, le circuit de freinage et l'embrayage ont été changés, et une ligne d'échappement en inox a été installée. Rares sont les autos avec un historique aussi clair, cette Maserati constitue une superbe occasion d'acheter une voiture dans un état d'origine comme on pouvait en trouver il y a une trentaine d'années. The driver was treated to leather upholstery and a full range of instruments, while gripping the superb three-spoke steering wheel. Under the bonnet, the car's competition heritage was evident in the splendid six-cylinder twin-cam engine from the racing 350 S, which delivered 220 bhp. The evolution continued with the appearance of the Spyder by Vignale, adoption of Lucas injection in 1960 and a five-speed gearbox from 1961. The car offered is an exceptional coupé liveried in red, that first took to the road in 1962. It has covered 108,000 km in the hands of just three owners. The current owner bought the car in 1971, from the marque importers, Thépenier. The model from this year was the most successful version, with 235 bhp available underfoot, complemented by the five-speed gearbox. The vendor, who took part in rallies in the 1950s, told us that he liked to cruise at 160 km/h when the roads were clear. During restoration work carried out by the ARES workshop during the 1980s, the paintwork was redone, and part of the leather trim was replaced, while retaining the original seats. At the same time, new brakes, clutch and a stainless steel exhaust were fitted. Cars with such continuous history are hard to come by, and this Maserati offers a remarkable opportunity to acquire a car in original condition, as might be found some thirty years ago.
