Lancée au salon de l'auto de Genève de 1961, la Jaguar Type E succéda à l'XK150, dernière de la série des XK, elle était alors la voiture de série la plus rapide du monde (240 Km/h). L Après trois ans de succès, notamment aux États-Unis, la « XK-E » inconfortable, difficile à conduire avec sa boîte Moss quatre vitesses devait se moderniser pour faire face à la nouvelle génération de Ferrari et à la nouvelle Porsche 911 empiétant sur son marché de la voiture de sport « abordable ». C’est pourquoi le 3,8L fut troqué pour un 4,2L et ainsi gagner en souplesse, ce, tandis que la boîte Moss était remplacée par une boîte Jaguar à quatre vitesses. Enfin, l’habitacle perdait définitivement son habillage en aluminium et ses sièges semi-baquet pour plus de confort. Surtout, la Type E conservait son design épuré qui faisait tout son charme. La production s'étendit de 1961 à 1973 et se déclina en 3 modèles (cabriolet, coupé et 2+2) et 3 séries. ". Launched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-Type was the successor to the XK150, the last of the XK series, which was the fastest production car in the world at 240km/h. L After three years of success, particularly in the United States, the uncomfortable, hard-to-drive 'XK-E' with its Moss four-speed gearbox needed to be modernised to cope with the new generation of Ferraris and the new Porsche 911 encroaching on its 'affordable' sports car market. So the 3.8L was swapped for a 4.2L to make it more flexible, while the Moss gearbox was replaced by a Jaguar four-speed. Finally, the interior was permanently stripped of its aluminium trim and semi-bucket seats for greater comfort. Above all, the E-Type retained its sleek design that had been its hallmark. Production lasted from 1961 to 1973 and was divided into 3 models (convertible, coupé and 2+2) and 3 series.
