Répertorié dans le Historic Lotus Register, le châssis 51/FF/123 a été délivré neuf en 1967 à la Jim Russell Racing Driver School, en Angleterre, école de pilotage renommée où sont passés Derek Bell ou Jacques Villeneuve. D'ailleurs, la première course de Formule Ford, à Brands Hatch, le 2 juillet 1967, n'était autre qu'une compétition entre cette institution et la Motor Racing Stables. L'année suivante, la monoplace devient la propriété de Lotus Canada, avant d'être achetée par un pilote de Géorgie, aux USA. En 2004, alors qu'elle avait été restaurée, elle revient dans son pays d'origine, l'Angleterre, puis en 2008, elle rejoint l'Autriche. C'est là, en 2011, que son actuel propriétaire en fait l'acquisition. En 2015, le moteur et la boîte de vitesses sont refaits dans le respect de la catégorie Formule Ford, et depuis, la voiture a couru approximativement 8 heures. Son propriétaire nous a confirmé qu'elle était prête à courir après les vérifications d'usage, équipée de son passeport FIA qui sera à renouveler. Piloter une monoplace de marque prestigieuse tout en ayant un coût de fonctionnement parmi les plus économiques : voilà la gageure que résout cette pièce, en y ajoutant une réussite esthétique indéniable. Listed in the Historic Lotus Register, chassis 51/FF/123 was delivered new in 1967 to the famous Jim Russell Racing Driver School in England that played a role in the development of drivers such as Derek Bell and Jacques Villeneuve. In fact, the first ever Formula Ford race took place that year, on 2 July at Brands Hatch, in a simple competition between this institution and rival school, the Motor Racing Stables. The following year, this single seater was acquired by Lotus Canada, before being bought by a driver from Georgia, US. It returned to England in 2004, having been restored, and then went to Austria in 2008. It was from here that the current owner bought the car in 2011. In 2015, the engine and gearbox were rebuilt to Formula Ford specification, and the car has been raced for approximately 8 hours since. The owner has confirmed that, subject to the usual checks, it is ready to race and its FIA passport will need to be renewed. An opportunity to race a single seater of this prestigious marque, with reasonable running costs and an outstanding aesthetic - this is a winning formula.
