Équipé d’un V8 de 3,5l de cylindrée d’origine Buick accouplé à une boite manuelle et une transmission intégrale permanente, les premières versions à 3 portes innovent beaucoup sur le plan de l’esthétisme et de l’habitabilité notamment avec un hayon rabattable en deux parties, une ceinture de caisse enveloppante et un grand espace à bord qui sont, encore aujourd’hui, les caractéristiques techniques des Range Rover. Le coup de crayon de David Bache est reconnaissable entre tous ; une forme de break surélevé à la fois chic et robuste avec cette sensation d’être bon à tout faire et c’est justement le cas : capacité de chargement démentielle avec 1025 litres de coffre (voire 2088 litres une fois la banquette arrière rabattue) aidé par un correcteur d’assiette hydraulique, ainsi qu’une capacité de traction de 3,5 tonnes; tout simplement camionnesque. Si le véhicule se veut luxueux, l’habitacle nous rappelle les années 1970 : pas de compte-tours, une boite manuelle à 4 rapports, des lèves vitres à manivelle et des sièges en vinyle; tout en restant très technologique avec des suspension à ressorts hélicoïdaux et des amortisseurs télescopiques. Développant 135 chevaux dans ses premières versions, le Range Rover changea, 15 ans après, de dessin tout en restant fidèle à la ligne originelle. Arrivé jusqu'à nous dans sa teinte d’origine Estnor green il est en bel état esthétique aussi bien à l’extérieur qu’à l’intérieur où les sièges avant ainsi que la moquette ont été refaits récemment. Bien optionné, ce Range Rover dispose depuis l’achat d’un overdrive qui s’actionne grâce à une importante poignée située à droite du conducteur ainsi que de la climatisation permettant d’apprécier le voyage dans un confort supplémentaire qu’offre déjà un Range Classic. Une révision fut faite dernièrement afin de pouvoir présenter un véhicule dans un bel état mécanique, la vidange et le changement du filtre à huile ainsi que le remplacement des bougies et de la batterie font partie de la liste. Dans un état tout à fait satisfaisant, ce Suffix F est le dernier de la collection des Suffix chez qui on observe des prix de plus en plus croissants tant la demande pour ce genre de véhicule ne cesse de grandir. The idea of a luxurious off-roader, at ease on tarmac as well as in ruts, was born in Rover's mind in the late 1960s with the emergence of an extensive range of franchises around the world, inspired by Land Rover in the aftermath of the war. Named the Road Rover and then the Velar, it was introduced in 1970 as the Rang Rover we still know today.
