262. 262W Importante commode estampillée de Jacques Dautriche, d'époque Transition Louis XV-Louis XVI, en placage de bois de rose et bois de violette à marqueterie géométrique, riche ornementation de bronzes dorés An important late Louis XV ormolu-mounted tulipwood, kingwood and amaranth parquetry commode by Jacques Dautriche, third quarter 18th century The shaped rouge griotte marble top above three frieze drawers with inset patera and rosette entrelac border, above two long drawers inlaid sans traverse with trellis and flowerhead parquetry within contrasting encadrements and four foliate ring handles, the marquetry divided in three panels flanked by acanthus wrapped and swaged foliate chutes, the sides conformingly inlaid, above a draped mask apron headed by serpents, on hipped legs with foliate ormolu edge terminating in upswept acanthus paw feet, stamped 'J.DAUTRICHE' and 'JME', with black ink inventory number to top '10923' and a indistinct inscription, 130cm wide, 59cm deep, 89.5cm high (51in wide, 23in deep, 35in high). Jacques van Oostenrik, dit Dautriche, maître on 24 May 1765. Provenance Maurice Ségoura, Paris, 1976. Born in the Netherlands, Jacques van Oostenrijk moved to Paris sometime before 1743, at which time he gallicized his name to Dautriche. Until he became maître in 1765, he worked as an independent craftsman who specialised in marquetry. The very talented Dautriche seem to have been soon influenced by the very best ébénistes and particularly by the celebrated Jean-Francois Oeben who was one of the most emblematic cabinet makers of the reign of Louis XV. A working collaboration between Dautriche and Oeben has been suggested by A. Pradère. Dautriche accession to the master's degree took place two years after Jean-Francois Oeben's death. His production is characterized by well executed and high-quality parquetry pieces, as the commode here offered. Interestingly, ornamental bronzes and marquetry panels are as well often identical to those found in Oeben's oeuvre. Dautriche famous clients comprised the Comte d'Artois as attested by his deliveries to the Palais du Temple.
