Provenance Anon. sale, Georges Blache, Versailles, 11 December 1966 (as attributed to van der Werff, according to a label on the reverse) The painting follows Adriaen van der Werff's work, now at the Wallace Collection, London (inv. P165). However, some differences can be noted, particularly to the background of the composition.
