The present bust-length portrait, showing an Ottoman prince wearing a turban, follows the format of Cristofano dell'Altissimo's Giovio Series, later adopted by his followers for European collectors fascinated by Ottoman rulers.
The sitter is identified as Acomat (Acmat / Ahmed), one of the sons of Sultan Mehmed III (reigned 1595–1603). Born into the imperial harem, Acomat belonged to a generation of Ottoman princes whose lives were governed by strict succession rules. After Mehmed III's death in 1603, his son Ahmed I ascended the throne and ordered the execution of most of his brothers to secure the succession. Acomat was reportedly among those executed, remembered in Western sources under the name Acomat or Acmat, a corruption of Ahmet.
Although Cristofano's activity predates Acomat's lifetime, the stylistic affinity suggests a rare later follower's work.
