351. 351W Cartel et baromètre Napoléon III en acajou et ornementation de bronze doré, de Robin, d'après un modèle de Martin Carlin A late 19th century French ormolu-mounted mahogany cartel clock and barometer Robin, after a model by Martin Carlin Surmounted by a flaming urn over elaborate ribbons and oak leaves to an ionic capital at the top of a tapering trunk with glazed panel revealing the gridiron pendulum, mounted all over with gilt bronze harebell swags, foliage and beading. The signed 8.25 inch white enamel dial with outer scale for the barometer ranging from 27 to 29 inches, with six weather predictions and two hands, the lower part with a Roman and Arabic clock dial with centre seconds hand. The twin train spring driven clock movement with pinwheel escapement striking on a bell. The mercury tube set into the rear of the trunk and protected by a long door. 152cms (5ft) high. This exceptional clock and barometer is based on the model by Martin Carlin (c.1730-1785) formerly at Chateau d'Edu, and now in the permanent collection of the Louvre Museum, Paris.
