42. NETSUKE EN BOIS DE CERF REPRÉSENTANT UN KAPPA

A STAG-ANTLER NETSUKE OF A KAPPA (WATER SPRITE)
19th century
Carved from the burr of an antler, depicting the head and torso of a kappa, the kappa smiling widely with both arms raised, possibly holding a tama (jewel), its face partially obscured by the natural stag hair; unsigned. 4.1cm (1 5/8in) high.
