52. Thomas Spence Duché (Philadelphie 1763-1790 Londres) Le Vérité se revèle au Temps et la Science offices à ses enfants porte une signature 'RWestall.' (sur la marche, en bas à gauche) huile sur toile, peint dans tondo 40.2 x 40cm (15 13/16 x 15 3/4in). Provenance Private Collection, France Literature A.F. Duche, mezzotint, 1780s (see British Museum, acc.no. 1877,0811.1323) The present work, Truth Discovering to Time Science Instructing her Children in the Improvements on the Microscope depicts: Truth as the central figure, Time as the old gentleman with the scythe and Science, seated surrounded by children, with her hands on a globe. It was engraved in mezzotint in 1780s and published as the frontispiece of George Adams Essays on the Microscope in 1787.
