A BLUE AND WHITE MING-STYLE 'DRAGON' DISH
Jiaqing seal mark and of the period
With rounded sides rising to a slightly everted rim, the interior painted with a three-clawed, sinuous dragon striding amidst ruyi-shaped clouds, encircled by a double-line border repeated at the rim, the reverse similarly decorated with two dragons in pursuit of flaming pearls, the base with a six-character seal mark in underglaze blue.
15.5cm (6 1/8in) diam.

Compare the present dish with two blue and white Ming prototypes, the first a blue and white dragon saucer dish of the Wanli period, sold Sotheby's Hong Kong, 13 November 1990, lot 138, the second of the Jiajing period, also sold Sotheby's Hong Kong, 13 November 1990, lot 143.
