Hans Richter est l'une figure majeure des mouvements d'avant-garde qui ont posé les bases et les jalons des grandes aventures artistiques du XXe siècle. Compagnon de route du Blaue Reiter, avec Kandinsky et Franz Marc, il est aussi et surtout l'un des fondateurs et des figures majeures du mouvement Dada, remise à plat des toutes les certitudes historiques, bouleversées par cet immense éclat de rire régénérateur. L'œuvre que nous présentons ici, Pferiekopf, datée de 1918, est typique de la période Dada de l'artiste, mais rappelle par sa symbolique et le traitement du thème, sa période de compagnonnage dans le sillage du Cavalier Bleu. Hans Richter accompagne le déplacement de la scène artistique à New-York à l'aube de la guerre en fuyant l'Allemagne nazie. La grande mécène Peggy Guggenheim organisera sa première exposition aux Etats-Unis. A fellow traveler of the Blaue Reiter, along with Kandinsky and Franz Marc, he is also and above all one of the founders and major figures of the Dada movement, a rethinking of all historical certainties, turned upside down by this immense burst of regenerative laughter. The work we present here, Pferiekopf, dated 1918, is typical of the artist's Dada period, but recalls by its symbolism and treatment of the theme, his period of companionship in the wake of the Blue Rider. Hans Richter accompanies the displacement of the art scene in New York at the dawn of the war by fleeing Nazi Germany. The great patron Peggy Guggenheim organized his first exhibition in the United States.
