Tabatière à décor émaillé, probablement France circa 1730 A European enamel snuff box probably French, circa 1730 Finely painted in polychrome colours with a mythological scene possibly depicting Deianira and Hercules, the sides with putti in various pursuits after the prints by Jacques Stella, and the front and back with commedia and court figures after Watteau, the base of the box with a satyr chasing a nymph through the reeds, and the inside of the cover with an elegant couple in an arcadian landscape, set in a gilt-metal mount 8.7 cm wide (some losses and cracks, the mount loose) Provenance Collezione Paolo Candiani (paper label to the interior) Paolo Candiani (1937-73) was an architect and artist, and subject of several exhibitions devoted to his life and work.
