8. 8W Retable en bois sculpté peint polychrome à rehauts d'or représentant des scènes de la vie de la Vierge Marie, travail probablement espagnol, vers 1550-1600 A parcel-gilt and polychrome wood altarpiece depicting scenes from the life of Mary, probably Spanish, circa 1550-1600 The far left panel shows the Archangel Gabriel and the Virgin, then the Visitation to his cousin Elisabeth, the central panel shows the Nativity with two cherubs holding the phylactery with the inscription 'GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO', then the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple and finally the Epiphany, each scene is in an architected low relief background depicting mountains, buildings flanked by angels' head in high relief, in a later frame, it is almost certain that the altarpiece once had doors and probably an upper section, now lost, each panel 31cm wide, 50cm high (12in wide, 19 1/2in high), the outer frame 195cm wide, 70cm high (76 1/2in wide, 27 1/2in high)
