A rare inscribed underglaze blue and copper-red decorated brushpot, China, Qing dynasty, probably Kangxi period
A brushpot of cylindrical form, the exterior finely inscribed with an essay entitled "Memorial to Yueyang Tower" in 30 columns by Fan Zhongyan (5 September 989 – 19 June 1052), dated to the 23rd year of the Kangxi reign, underglaze red seal mark. Intact. Height 16 cm. Diameter 19.5 cm.
Provenance: From an old private collection in Munich. Acquired before 1970 in Japan.
