A rare two-handed sword (Claymore) dating: circa 1600 provenance: Scotland, Long, straight, ribbed, double-edged blade, iron hilt with straight quillons, the edges angled towards the blade and shaped as a drop. Two oval parry rings worked in one piece with the center of crossguard provided with two, long wings holding the blade. Spherical pommel, long handle made of wood and covered with leather, cannelure framed by metal wire binding. A very similar sword can be found in 'Ancient Scottish Weapons' by James Drummond/Joseph Anderson, editore George Waterston & Sons, Edinburgh & London 1881, plate 11, number 1. length 165.5 cm.
