A Sassanian silver dish with depiction of a horse, 4th - 7th century
An excellently preserved silver bowl. Four concentric circles on the bottom, the outer surface with radiating ribbed decoration. The inside smooth. In the centre an extraordinarily richly decorated horse, among other things with saddle and saddle blanket, headdress and ribbons. A masterly engraving. Intact. Diameter 20 cm. Height 4 cm. Weight 341 g.
Provenance: Private collection in Rhineland-Palantine, by descent from the father.
