A very rare 1729 model sword of the Janissary Corps dating: 1729 - 1731 provenance: Saxony - Poland, Wide. Straight, single-and-false-edged blade, with wide fuller at the center, the base with royal monogram 'AR' under crown (King Augustus II. 1697 - 1733) on both sides, the back with fuller. The handle is made of brass in two welded parts, cross-shaped quillon with monogram 'AR' under crown in bas-relief on granulated background (also on both sides). Fishbone, karabela-type handle. Leather-covered wooden scabbard (small missing parts) with three mounts worked en suite with the handle (one smooth segment alternating with a granulated one). In 1729, Colonel Christoph von Unruh formed - on the orders of King Augustus II of Poland, as Elector of Saxony Augustus I - the Janissary Corps consisting of four companies with one hundred men each, stationed in Dresden and Warsaw,.
