A very rare double-barreled express rifle by J. Purdey dating: about 1880 provenance: London, Round, rifled, browned, swiveling, damask, 10 gauge barrel (clean bore, small areas with pitting, well visible rifling), rib signed 'J. PURDEY 314 OXFORD STREET LONDON', adjustable rear sight with three sight leaves and front sight. Wide and long tang marked 'PATENT' at the center and finely engraved with floral motifs; backwards spring locks signed 'PURDEY', provided with secure-lock and decorated en suite; butt and fore-end with knurled palm rest and base; iron mounts and lever with the same decorations. Lower tang with serial number '87xx'; butt plate marked 'CHARCE 8 DMS N.o 6 POWDER'. Beautiful weapon, in good conditions. length 109 cm.
