L’utilisation du kotsa est devenue ma signature et sert de métaphore pour la purification et le renouveau. J’ai eu l’idée de l’utiliser pour la première fois après le décès de ma mère. Au Ghana, les traditions funéraires du peuple Ga incluent un processus que nous appelons kotsa gbamo, c’est-à-dire le bain du corps. C’est la prise de conscience finale que la personne ne peut plus se baigner elle-même et que d’autres sont appelés à le faire à sa place. Il s’agit de l’un des rituels permettant à l’esprit du défunt de se reposer plutôt que d’errer dans le monde en souffrant éternellement. The use of kotsa has become my signature and is used as a metaphor for cleansing and renewal. I first got inspired to use it after my mother’s passing. Part of the burial traditions in Ghana amongst Ga people includes a process we call kotsa gbamo, which is the bathing of the corpse. It is the final realization that the person can no longer bathe themselves and that others are called to do the duty for them. This is one of the rituals performed to ensure that the spirit of the departed member of the family can rest rather than wandering in the world forever suffering.
