An harquebusier's armour
dating: second quarter of the 17th Century
provenance: Northern Germany, Lobster-tailed capeline with hemispherical skull worked in one piece, provided with six embossed fuses, ending in a ring at the top, provided with a pointed brim and sliding nosepiece whose upper cusp is stamped '4' and 'L', movable cheekpieces with air holes, five-plated nape-guard. Iron breastplate and backplate with neckline and roped smooth gussets. The outer surface blackened and with remains of gilt bands. Leather string (of a later time?) with damaged belt. The breastplate with wide front flap fastened with rivets. height as shown circa 80 cm.
