Anglo-Dutch School, 17th Century Portrait of a gentleman, in a gorget and embroidered doublet, oil on canvas, 67 x 55 cm, oval, framed ÜBERLANGTEXT The present portrait of a dashing officer in a fashionable blackened-armour gorget and intricately embroidered doublet likely shows an English sitter by an Anglo-Dutch hand. A date of execution in the latter 1620s has been suggested. However, the identity of this highly accomplished hand and the exact identity of the sitter has so far eluded scholars. The frame is English but later than the portrait, and dates from the early eighteenth century.
