However, these attempts were initially applied only in racing. In 1972 Porsche developed a version of the 917 racing engine with exhaust turbocharger and 100 hp output for the American CanAm Series. Due to its success, Porsche won the CanAm Series in 1972 and 1973, Porsche used the experience with the turbo gained in racing for its serial sports car production immediately. In 1974 the first racing car made on the basis of the 911 was ready to use. It was a turbocharged version of the 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR. The newly developed racing car with the type designation 911 Carrera RSR Turbo 2.1 had a turbocharged 2.1 liter engine with 500 hp. It had a breathtaking acceleration of 3.2 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and 8.8 seconds from 0 to 200 km/h. The street version of the 911 Turbo was also presented in 1974. The 911 Turbo 3.0 was introduced on the German market in spring of 1975, it was available overseas with the type designation 911 Turbo Carrera only as of the model year 1976. From the introduction of the prototype Turbo to the latest 991 Turbo, the Turbo has always been the top model and most innovative car of the 911 type series. With only 2,880 units built between 1975 and 1977, the Turbo 3.0 liter is a much sought-after collectible today. The Turbo 3.0 Coupe was first delivered to the U.S.A. (no. 217 of 530), built in autumn 1975, model year 1976. The Porsche is in a very nice original and unrestored condition. The body shows no traces of any accidents and no welding jobs, either. The Turbo is partly in its original finish. The underbody is likewise untouched and still has the factory-made PVC underbody protection. . Engine and gearbox were built the same year, so it is likely that they are matching numbers. The interior is particularly captivating for its fine original condition. Sports seats, side paneling, instruments, carpets and steering wheel have not been restored. The leather is slightly hardened and brittle in places, however, it has a fine patina and is worthwhile preserving. The leather covered dash panel is in good condition and not skewed. The interior rooftop was renewed a couple of years ago. The car features the ex-factory originaI 'Blaupunkt Bamberg' radio with channel selector key and microphone. The original spare tire (stamped 11/75), the jack, the toolbag and the compressor are included, as well as the handbook with manual. The mileage is plausible considering the car's condition, however, it is not documented. The last owner, a German collector, had the original miles odometer changed to km/h and had the mileage converted to km. From 1984 to its import to Germany in 2010 the Turbo was verifiable in one hand.
