Ansonsten für das Alter der Tafel außerordentlich guter Erhaltungszustand mit min. alten Eingriffen. Rahmen. Eine nahezu identische Komposition Bartolomeo Bulgarinis wurde am 11. Dezember 2002 bei Bonhams in London versteigert (Lot 324). Die dort angebotene Tafel war um wenige Landschaftselemente erweitert, scheint aber schlechter im Erhaltungszustand als das hier angebotene Tafelbild und wirkt sehr montiert im kompositorischen Erscheinungsbild. Möglicherweise handelt es sich bei der dortigen Tafel um eine leicht spätere Werkstattarbeit nach dem hier angebotenen Werk. Bulgarinis Werke stehen stilistisch den Arbeiten Pietro Lorenzettos und den Bildern Ugolino di Nero sehr nahe. Deshalb erhielt der Maler anfänglich den Notnamen Ugolino Lorenzetti bis es im 18. Jahrhundert gelang, Bulgarini die sogenannten 'Biccherna-Tafeln' zuzuordnen. Ausgehend von diesen Tafelbildern konnte in der Folge das Oeuvre des Malers verstärkt entschlüsselt und seinem Schaffen Bilder in unterschiedlichen Sammlungen zugeordnet werden. Bulgarini war wahrscheinlich vorwiegend in Siena aktiv, wo er von 1337 bis zu seinem Tod 1378 in mehreren Dokumenten Erwähnung fand. Heute beherbergen viele bedeutende Museen der Welt seine Werke: unter anderem das Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, die Eremitage in St. Petersburg, die Pinacoteca Nationale in Siena, die National Gallery of Art in Washington, das Frankfurter Städel und das Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in Köln. Otherwise extraordinarily good condition for the age of the panel, with min. old structural modifications. Frame. An almost identical composition by Bartolomeo Bulgarini was auctioned at Bonhams in London on 11th December 2002 (lot 324). The panel offered there was extended by a few landscape elements, but seems to be in poorer condition than the panel offered here and appears very assembled in compositional appearance. It is possible that the panel offered there is a slightly later workshop work after the work offered here. Bulgarini's works are stylistically very close to the works of Pietro Lorenzetto and the paintings of Ugolino di Nero. For this reason, the painter was initially given the need name 'Ugolino Lorenzetti' until the 18th century, when Bulgarini succeeded in attributing the so-called 'Biccherna panels' to him. Based on these panel paintings, it was subsequently possible to decipher more of the painter's oeuvre and to assign pictures in different collections to his work. Bulgarini was probably mainly active in Siena, where he is mentioned in several documents from 1337 until his death in 1378. Today, his works are housed in many important museums in the world: among others, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the Pinacoteca Nationale in Siena, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Städel in Frankfurt and the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in Cologne.
