Bruges School around 1500, Triptych with the Crucifixion, John the Baptist and St. Barbara When fully opened, the central panel of this triptych depicts the Crucifixion of Christ against a landscape painted in vivid green and blue tones showing the silhouette of the walls and towers of the fortified city of Jerusalem in the background. The side panels depict Saint John the Baptist and Saint Barbara with her attribute, the tower. When closed, the outer faces of the panels depict the Annunciation in grisaille, whereby the figures of the Virgin and the angel Gabriel are depicted within trompe l'oeil niches of Gothic tracery.
