CASQUE PYLOS, BRONZE, GRANDE GRÈCE, CIRCA 2EME MOITIÉ DU IVE S. AV. J.-C.
A GREEK BRONZE PILOS HELMET, MAGNA GRAECIA, CIRCA 2ND HALF OF THE 4TH CENTURY B.C., of conical form with rounded dome, an encircling rib above the broad rim, with two circular attachment holes above the rim, 20cm high, 22cm diam.

There is another similar pilos helmet in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, acc. no. 08.2.4. and there is a more elaborately decorated example in the Louvre, inventory no. Bj 2152.1. Such helmets were modelled on peasant felt caps and were sometimes decorated with bucolic scenes of herdsmen.
