Lot 153
CELTICA, GOLD STATER OF THE PARISII, Paris area, 1st century BC, 7.244g, 3h. DT 79. Very rare. Lightly toned. Perfectly centered. From the class (II) representing the finest Celtic style. Extremely fine. From the Fragaria collection; possibly from the Puteaux hoard (1950)
The Parisii's staters are undoubtedly amongst the finest of all celtic coinages. The extraordinarily rich artistic treatment of the horse on reverse is characterized by a curvilinear triangular formation above it, the so-called wing, perhaps representing the canopy of heaven.
