DEMI-LUNE COMMODE GIUSEPPE VIGLIONE, TURIN, 1781 Inlaid in kingwood, maple wood and other essences, with linear motifs interrupted by gilt-bronze clasps on the frieze and with an elegant meander parquetry with trompe l'oeil tridimensional effect to frame the drawers, with gray marble top, three drawers on the front and two side doors, on tapered legs with ormolu-monted feet. Inside the upper drawer a printed paper label 'Giuseppe Viglione, Padrone Ebanista approvato, Tenente Bottega in Torino nella Contrada di Santa Teresa avanti il Palazzo dell'Illustriss. Sig. Conte Collegno, 1781'. 35.8 x 47.2 x 21.3 in. The demi-lune commode appears to be almost the twin of the one published by Roberto Antonetto in his volume 'Il Mobile Piemontese nel Settecento', despite having been made a year earlier. There is a slight difference in the proportions, in the shape of the legs and in the inlay on the uprights, while the refined perspective effect of the meander framing the drawers is identical, as well as the execution technique that proposes the same defect highlighted by Antonetto, with longer elements in the upper right and lower left corners in order to invert the point of view.
