Taf. 59 ("Stehende Madonna") In Haltung und Gestik lässt Ewald Matarés "Stehende Madonna" Anleihen an spätgotische Auffassungen dieses Figurentypus erkennen, wobei der Künstler über die leicht dynamisierte Körperhaltung und den weichen Faltenwurf gekonnt die Strenge des Bildnisses zu relativieren vermag. Die in ihrer Anlage zunächst traditionelle Mariendarstellung erweitert er etwa im Bereich der Haare mit wenigen abstrahierenden Akzenten und lässt die Arbeit mit ihren Mataré-typisch reduzierten Grundformen zu einer subtilen Verbindung von sakralem Thema und modernistischer Formensprache werden. Mataré extends this Marian image, which is traditional in its basic conception, with a few semi-abstract accents - for example, in the area of the hair - and uses the reductive elementary forms typical of his work to turn this piece into a subtle combination of sacred subject and modern formal idiom.
