EXQUISITES NETSUKE DER BERÜHMTEN TÄNZERIN IZUMO NO OKUNI. Japan. Tôkyô, um 1900. Kawahara Ryo. Elfenbein, überaus fein geschnitzt und graviert mit dunkel aktzentuierten Details. In dynamisch tänzerischer Pose auf einem Bein stehend, die Zehen des anderen berühren gerade eben den Boden. Ihr Kopf und Oberkörper sind zurückgewandt. Sie trägt einen breitkrempigen Reisehut, in der rechten Hand hält sie einen Fächer und in der linken Hand einen Stock. Das mit Chrysanthemen verzierte mehrlagige Gewand wird von einem im Rücken lang herabfallenden obi gehalten. Die schwungvollen Falten des Gewandes lassen erkennen, dass sich die Dame mit ihrem ganzen Körper in Bewegung befindet. Mitten im Tanz befindend hat sie sich des linken Ärmels ihres Obergewandes entledigt - eine Bewegung, die ebenso im kabuki zu finden ist. Es könnte sich hier um die berühmte Tänzerin und Begründerin des kabuki, Izumo no Okuni, handeln, die eine elegante, reisende Dame verkörpert. Die überspannte Körperhaltung in S-Kurve ist überdies typisch für das kabuki. Prächtiges, mehrschichtiges Gewand, tiefsitzender obi und die Frisur verweisen zudem auf die frühe Edo-Zeit. Das Netsuke ist meisterlich geschnitzt und trotz seiner komplexen Komposition sehr gut ausbalanciert, sodass die Figur nur auf einem Bein zu stehen vermag. Kawahara Ryo ist bekannt für seine vorzüglich geschnitzten Netsuke, die in ihrer Gestaltung zugleich ausgewogen und ausdrucksstark sind. Höhe 4,9cm. Sign.: Ryo & kakihan, siehe LA S. 881. Ivory, very delicately carved and engraved with darkly accentuated details. Standing on one leg in a dynamic dancing pose, the toes of the other just touch the ground. Her head and upper body are turned back. She wears a wide-brimmed travel hat, holding a fan in her right hand and a stick in her left. The multi-layered garment, decorated with chrysanthemums, is held in place by an obi falling down long in her back. The sweeping folds of the robe show that the lady is moving with her whole body. Dancing amidst, she has taken off the left sleeve of her outer garment - a movement that can also be found in the kabuki. It could be the famous dancer and founder of kabuki, Izumo no Okuni, who embodies an elegant travelling lady. The overstretched posture in S-curve is also typical for the kabuki. A splendid, multi-layered garment, low obi and the hairstyle also refer to the early Edo period. The netsuke is masterfully carved and despite its complex composition very well balanced, so that the figure can solely stand on one foot.
