Ezra POUND. 89 lettres, dont 8 L.A.S. ou L.A., et 81 lettres dactylographiées, la plupart L.S. et avec ajouts autographes, Rapallo, Rome et Venise 1935-1939 et Washington 1946, à John Hargrave ; environ 235 pages formats divers, plusieurs à son en-tête ou avec la vignette à son effigie (une à la devise J’ayme donc je suis), quelques enveloppes ou adresses (les lettres ont été étiquetées et numérotées par Hargrave ; fentes et réparations à plusieurs lettres, quelques bords un peu effrangés, quelques petites découpes comblées) ; en anglais. Importante correspondance inédite, politique et économique, avec le chef du Social Credit Party. John Gordon HARGRAVE (1894-1982), écrivain et dessinateur (sous le pseudonyme de Kibbo Kift), après avoir animé le mouvement de jeunesse des Kindred of the Kibbo Kift (rejeton du scoutisme), fonda en 1932 le parti des Green Shirts (Chemises vertes) qui se restructura en 1935 pour devenir le Social Credit Party, proche des idées économiques d’Ezra Pound, pour défendre le crédit social contre le capitalisme, l’usure et les banques. Dans cette correspondance passionnante, dans un style exalté et véhément, Pound s’intéresse à la diffusion des principes du Social Credit, à ses avancées face aux banques et aux Juifs ; il évoque ses propres contributions au mouvement ; il développe l’intérêt de briser le monopole bancaire par le crédit social et des bons ; il défend les acquis du Fascisme et l’action de Mussolini, ses réformes sociales, et la guerre en Abyssinie ; il commente l’actualité politique mondiale, et la politique anglaise, avec l’arrivée au pouvoir puis l’abdication d’Edward VIII ; il encourage Hargrave à renforcer la présence des Green Shirts et des Social Creditors dans les campagnes électorales et la presse ; il l’exhorte à se concentrer sur les buts économiques des Green Shirts, et à s’entendre avec le leader pro-nazi Graham S. Hutchinson, malgré son antisémitisme féroce, etc. On y lit de nombreuses allusions aux économistes, hommes politiques, syndicaliste et militants, publicistes, banquiers et capitalistes : Norman Angell, John Angold, Stanley Baldwin, W.L.
