Hammacher on Fausto Melotti: ''In this border area of extremely reduced means - which are nonetheless very receptive to light that almost has its very own function - it seems he was the only person who succeeded in reaching the limit of the audible with the means of the visible. This also explains the weightlessness of his work. Since it is without volume and mass (apart from the spheres), everything takes place within a linear limited framework in which the relation between the signs of his spatial alphabet determines the core of the work. On this basis numerous variations of a theme can be invented. Rows of smaller or larger dimensions are created, which are placed one above the other or in a continuous space. Hammacher über Fausto Melotti: „Es sieht so aus, als ob es ihm als einzigem gelungen wäre, in diesem Grenzbereich der äußerst reduzierten Mittel - die trotzdem sehr empfänglich für das Licht sind, dem beinahe eine eigene Funktion zufällt -, mit dem Sichtbaren auch an die Grenze des Hörbaren zu gelangen. Das erklärt auch die Gewichtlosigkeit seines Werkes. Da es ohne Volumen und Masse ist (abgesehen von den Kugeln), spielt alles sich in einem linear begrenzten Rahmen ab, in dem die Relation zwischen den Zeichen seines räumlichen Alphabets den Kern des Werkes bestimmt. Auf dieser Grundlage lassen sich zahlreiche Variationen eines Themas erfinden. Es entstehen in kleineren oder größeren Maßen ausgeführte Reihen, die übereinander oder in einem durchlaufenden Raum untergebracht sind.
